Teaching & Learning

We have a topic based, cross curricular approach to teaching and learning. This means that children learn new concepts in a meaningful way that makes the links between different subjects, rather than just isolated pieces of information. This means the children can develop and apply key skills, knowledge and understanding within the National Curriculum.

As a school we are committed to delivering a broad, balanced curriculum underpinned by learning through the Arts. We believe being able to apply new learning through the Arts stimulates creativity and imagination, and helps develop a child’s full potential. Learning in this way enables children to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of a variety of processes and materials.

The Arts provide visual, tactile and sensory experiences and are a unique way of understanding and responding to the world. This helps children better retain what they have learned and make links across subjects. We have embedded arts outcomes in every unit of work. Pupils are provided with high quality learning experiences that lead to consistently high levels of achievement.

The ‘Habits of Mind’ behaviours frame the attitudes towards learning that we encourage in our pupils. Habits of Mind are thoughtful behaviours demonstrated through the attitudes and dispositions we bring to learning. They allow us to cope with the complex and rapidly changing world. The ‘Habits of Mind’ are powerful tools we can use to intelligently navigate the moral, ethical and spiritual challenges we encounter in our increasingly complex world.
